Back in December, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) announced in a statement that local telcos Celcom, Digi, Maxis, U Mobile and TM will start offering Special Data Packages SPM and STPM students as well as B40 households. Under these Special Data Packages, the aforementioned telco companies will offer special prepaid internet passes at RM20 for 15GB for a period of 30 days starting from today (6 January 2021).

How to apply for the Special Data Packages?

First and foremost, the Special Data Packages are available exclusively for students who are sitting for SPM and STPM examinations. According to the FAQs posted by Celcom and U Mobile, who are the only ones so far to offer these packages, only subscribers who are born from 2001 to 2004 are eligible for this pass.

U Mobile Special Data Package

The Special Data Packages will offer 15GB of High-Speed Internet for RM20 and will be valid for only 30 days. These special passes will be available starting from today until 30 April this year. Celcom and U Mobile also noted that these passes are available for prepaid plan subscribers only.

Eligible Celcom users can subscribe to the special internet data pass through the Celcom Life app. Existing Celcom users will receive an SMS with instructions to subscribe while new Celcom users will have to wait up to 4 working days to receive the SMS after a successful activated prepaid SIM. U Mobile users, on the other hand, can subscribe to the Special Data Package via the MyUMobile application or UMB codes.

Pokdepinion: I pity the students who have to sit through their SPM or STPM exams during these trying times. Hope they manage to go through their exams with flying colours.
