In order to lessen the burden of the public during the Covid-19 outbreak, the Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah has said that electricity bills will be given discounts starting from April.

TNB offers electricity bill discount

The minister has said that the discounts were announced on the 27th of February, through the 2020 Stimulus Package, which is followed by the Economic Action Council by our Prime Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

It seems that the government will be offering a 15% discount on electricity consumption, which will start from the 1st of April 2020 up until the 30th of September 2020 to six selected business sectors; hotel operators, travel and tourism agencies, shopping complexes, convention centres, theme parks, and as well as local airline offices.

Adding to that, Datuk Dr Shamsul has also said that there’s a 2% discount for domestic electricity users.

Here’s what he had to say on it:

I am happy to inform you that the discount cost of the electric bill will be funded by the Government through the Electric Industry Fund for the Peninsula. For Sabah and Sarawak, the cost of discount will be borne by the Federal Government.

He has also said that TNB and Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd will not cut electricity connection for those who are late in their bill payment, during the Movement Control Period.

Pokdepinion: Definitely a nice gesture of them to help with the current condition. Let’s hope we all will abide to the law and stay in our homes.
