Microsoft has turned Office into a subscription service with Office 365, and it seems like they are looking to turn more of their products into services you can subscribe to. Microsoft 365 Managed Desktop (MMD) is coming.

This new service was spotted by Petri.com as Microsoft posted new open positions that reveal the new MMD service. The job description goes on to describe the service as “a new, per-user subscription service that enables customers with devices that can take advantage of the latest productivity tools and technologies (Device as a Service) in a secure, monitored, and supported IT environment (IT as a Service).”

This will probably mean that Microsoft is looking to provide subscribers with a device on a lease, while managing Windows 10 on the device for the subscriber. This would be a great option especially for smaller companies that do not have dedicated tech support on hand to manage their systems.

What this looks like to me is that Microsoft knows their OS is not exactly user friendly, but hopes companies, or users, would pay them to manage it, rather than work on improving the product. What do you think?

Pokdepinion: I am definitely not going to pay Microsoft monthly to use my PC properly.
