Previously, we’ve posted on Microsoft introducing the Azure and Azure Stack for Malaysian businesses. Now, Malaysia’s Mass Rapid Transit Corporation or MRTC are utilizing the Microsoft Azure.

Malaysia's MRTC Implements Microsoft Azure - With A 35% Productivity Increase! 32In partnership with Microsoft’s Global ISV, Bentley Systems, MRTC aims to complete their 51-Kilometre Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit system’s Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya (SSP) line on time and within budget while benefiting from a projected 35% increase in productivity by the use of Microsoft Azure.

The Azure-hosted Bentley Systems allows MRTC to increase precision of construction, lowering instances of design rework and to improve safety standards by enabling synchronization and information exchange between external vendors.

MRTC faced several challenges with the construction of the KVMRT SSP line. One key issue that they had to face in the previous SBK line project was too many site changes during construction, resulting from design discrepancies arising from either design changes or site constraints.

One of the key challenge faced with any mega civil construction project like ours is ensuring seamless information exchange, and real-time collaboration among stakeholders, regardless of the platforms they are using. The probability for error is high if information is not managed on a common data environment, especially in a highly collaborative project like ours. These types of errors could lead to construction delays and increased costs due to change orders and rework to rectify issues Poh Seng Tiok, Director of Planning and Design with MRTC

Chosen to manage both of this project and future asset management is Bentley System’s ProjectWise and AssetWise. With the usage of Azure, these two enables all project disciplines to work, using a federated model for a coordinated design.

This CONNECT Edition of the ProjectWise and AssetWise solutions make the design, construction, and operation of infrastructure assets easier for owners, consulting firms, and their supply chains around the world. With this deployment, MRTC was able to conduct a Virtual Design Review process. It is a large improvement from the previous usage of 2D drawings and a traditional Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) workflow. The approach is expected to increase 35% productivity while reducing the need for a design rework by giving more accurate information.

The KVMRT SSP line project has been selected as a finalist in the BIM Advancements in Rail and Transit category in Bentley’s 2017 Be Inspired Awards program.

Pokdepinion: I wonder what other companies will adopt the Microsoft Azure now the MRTC are.
