WhatsApp Accidentally Confirms New Feature with Forwarded Messages

WhatsApp appears to be working on new, unrevealed features at the moment, and they have accidentally revealed one via their own FAQ page. While it cannot be accessed directly anymore, Google’s cache of the main link reveals some interesting details about it pertaining forwarded messages.

According to WABetaInfo, the feature is on “how to do an internet search on forward WhatsApp messages”. How it works is that when you receive a forwarded text message, you will see a search icon right next to it with a double arrow icon.

Once you’ve prompted a search on the web, the message will be uploaded directly to Google, which will result in various pages that would verify / debunk the forwarded message that you have received.

New WhatsApp Forwarded Message to be Made Available on Android First

At the moment, the feature is still being tested but this is more likely to come out sooner than other features in development right now. It’s also expected to be made available on Android first, with an iOS version coming soon after.

Apart from that, WhatsApp appears to be working on an Advanced Search feature that can look for specific type of media in the chat, Protect Backup which allows you to have a password on your backup for added security, and tweaks to the auto-download feature. For now, we will just have to wait and see what the app has for us next.

Pokdepinion: Hopefully, this will stop people, especially relatives (you know you have at least one like this), from spreading fake and unnecessary information that would only do more harm than good.
