PSA: Beware Of This WhatsApp Verification Code Scam 26

WhatsApp still remains to be one of the most popular messaging apps today. Given the massive number of users, it’s bound to have a number of scams. The latest one involves a WhatsApp verification code scam that you need to be aware of.

WhatsApp Verification Code Scam

PSA: Beware Of This WhatsApp Verification Code Scam

According to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), there is a WhatsApp verification code scam that could lead to you losing access to your own account. To protect your account, there is a built-in protection system where a verification code will be sent to you via SMS, which will be required to sign in. This ensures that no one else in any part of the world can use your account.

The WhatsApp verification code scam will involve the scammer contacting you directly either via call or text message, typically by using hijacked accounts of your friends or family members. There are also cases where they leave an automated call in your mailbox as well. Either way, they might claim to be an official representative of WhatsApp and they are requesting assistance from you.

This in itself is a major red flag as no representative of any kind will ever request for your verification code. In fact, this code is meant for your eyes and your eyes only, so no one else even if they are legitimately your friends or family members.

In the event that you find yourself with someone trying to hijack your account or have successfully done so, there is something that you can do. The first you should do is to file a police report in order to protect yourself from whatever the scammer does while impersonating you. The other thing you can do is refer to the steps given in the FAQ page, which you can do so by clicking right here.
