Winning entry will feature on Google’s homepage on Malaysia Day

Google Malaysia has finally announced the finalists for each category and the overall grand winner of the Doodle 4 Google 2017 art competition. A single overall grand winner selected from four finalists, who had the winning Doodle from each age group, will have his/her Doodle featured on the Google Malaysia homepage this coming Malaysia day for millions of Malaysians to see.

This is the second Doodle 4 Google competition in Malaysia with the first one held 3 years ago back in 2014. The Doodles submitted were judged based on the Doodle’s overall artistry, creativity, and hoe relevant the Doodle is with the Doodle 4 Google’s given theme. The theme of this year’s Doodle 4 Google is “Celebrating Malaysia’s Diversity”.

The winning entries are determined from an online vote by the general public who voted via the official website with the grand winner selected by Google’s own official Doodle team (yes, The Google Doodle Team is a thing) in the United States.

Here are the four Doodle 4 Google finalists:

  • Category age 7 to 9 years old: Wan Muhammad Fahyim bin Wan Mohd Nazdi from Sekolah Kebangsaan Kerteh, Terengganu
  • Category age 10 to 12 years old: Cheng Jun Kai from SJK(C) Kong Min, Kuantan, Pahang
  • Category age 13 to 15 years old: Ch’ng Kai Wei from Nexus International School Malaysia, Putrajaya
  • Category age 16 to 17 years old: Muhammad Khairul Aiman bin Mohamad Zaidi from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar                                                      Baru Sentul, Kuala Lumpur

The grand winner of this year’s Doodle 4 Google competition is Ch’ng Kai Wei from Nexus International School Malaysia, Putrajaya. Her Doodle, which she named “United, We Stand” was chosen due to the way she chose to represent Malaysia’s multi ethnic and multi cultural society.

United, We Stand

Her description of her winning Doodle reads,

In my doodle, I demonstrated my understanding of Malaysia’s diversity by including people from different ethnicities unique to Malaysia. However, I believe that Malaysia became the vibrant country that it is today because we are united as one regardless of race or colour or our ethnicity. To imply my idea, I drew 6 people (carefully arranged to also imply each alphabet in the word ‘Google’), representing each main ethnicity, with a banner featuring the main colours of the Malaysian flag to show that they are all ‘united’.

Beautiful.

Pokdepinion: I was floored by how good the entries were. The talent displayed by these kids sure took my breath away.
