Simple packaging with lots of info about the router

aztech_2400 (2)

Around the back you will see even more information in graphic form about the router

aztech_2400 (3)

aztech_2400 (4)

aztech_2400 (5)

The design of this router is pretty simple with no antennae visible, and is fully black in color, except the lights which are green in color :-) .

aztech_2400 (6)

On the rear end of the router you can see there are , 4 Gigabit Ethernet , 2 USB3.0 , 1 WAN port, and not a single port more.

aztech_2400 (8)

On the front of the router all the LED indicators are well-lit , not too bright and not too dim , and you can turn off all the LEDs with just one push of button at the lower front of the router.

FEATURES

AZTECH FG7008GR(AC) Review 27

AZTECH FG7008GR(AC) Review 28

It claims to be the best for gaming and video streaming , we will see later on whether this is true or not :-) .

AZTECH FG7008GR(AC) Review 29Multi-user MIMO technology has become a mainstream feature in all networking product in the market today .

AZTECH FG7008GR(AC) Review 30Even with no external antenna design, the AZTECH FG7008GR(AC) can offer a wide Wi-Fi coverage .

USER INTERFACE

The UI is separated into two different sections: BASIC and ADVANCE , The UI is not very friendly but if you are familiar with OpenWRT or DDRWT interface you will have no problem using the AZTECH FG7008GR(AC)’s interface.

TESTING METHODOLOGY

Network Diagram aztech

PC 1’s distance to AZTECH FG7008GR(AC) is 15 meters

2.4Ghz WiFi settings

2.4ghz settings aztech

5Ghz WiFi settings

5ghz settings aztech

5Ghz Speed Test

PC1 to Laptop 5ghz

Maximum transfer speed I can get is 46MBps and this is quite a good result because the maximum speed that my laptop can write is around 50MBps , but as you can see the result above the stability is not very good as you can see at certain points the speed dropped . Well this may be because some interference with the signal , I have tried my best to keep the signal and transfer speed stable but the result is still the same and it will drop at certain points in the transfer .

2.4Ghz Speed Test

PC1 to LAPTOP 2.4ghz

A bit disappointing on 2.4Ghz WiFi because the router does not support *40Mhz Bandwidth only* so i have to use 20/40Mhz bandwidth setting  and my adapter picked up the 20Mhz bandwidth instead of 40Mhz , which i have no idea how to force my adapter connect to 40Mhz bandwidth .

STORAGE AND TORRENT CLIENT (TRANSMISSION)

AZTECH T1

One of the best feature on router is built-in p2p client, or better known as torrent client. Transmission well transmission can be used with any kind of router that supports external storage but with the AZTECH FG7008GR(AC) you don’t need to install anything and just enable it via the UI ADVANCE MODE > ADVANCE > TORRENT SETUP . * the configure upload/download settings are capped at 10000KBps but this can be changed inside the transmission setting * .

AZTECH T2

Once you have enable the Torrent Setup go back to BASIC MODE and you will see Torrent icon on the top menu simply click it and you will have your own Transmission Torrent Client , to change the download/download speed simple click on the wrench icon go to speed tab .

AZTECH T4

Okay so now one of my torrent have completed downloading and the biggest question is How Do I Access Those Files ? well I have already read the manual cover to cover and searched in the UI and found nothing at all regarding how to access the downloaded files , so I Googled it , and i found out the only way to access the USB storage on AZTECH router is you have *RUN it by entering ” //192.168.0.254 ”

AZTECH T5

AZTECH T6

AZTECH T7

Streaming 1080p video was no biggy , the playback is smooth and stutter-free :-) .

CONCLUSION

aztech_2400 (1)

AZTECH FG7008GR(AC) packs a swell punch , and the most interesting part is it only costs around RM700++  . There is so much you can do with the stock firmware , it’s like using OpenWRT/DDRWT firmware , you can configure literally everything in the ADVANCE MODE .

The UI is not very user-friendly , and I can’t recommend this router to beginners . You need have some basic knowledge in networking to use this .
