This is it – meet the Proton e.MAS 7, the first model under Proton’s new electric vehicle brand, e.MAS. The C-segment electric SUV, co-developed with Geely, is the answer to Malaysian Government’s Electric Vehicle Agenda, aiming to introduce electric vehicles by 2025.
Following the introduction of the e.MAS brand and the establishment of 18 e.MAS outlets in June, PRO-NET, a subsidiary of Proton, has expanded to 29 outlets, with plans to have 25 showrooms operational before the public launch of the e.MAS 7.
Proton e.Mas 7: Basics
The e.MAS 7 is based on the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform co-developed with Chinese automotive giant Geely. It measures 4,615 mm in length, 1,901 mm in width, 1,670 mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. For powertrain, it features a “12-in-1 intelligent electric propulsion system,” with Cell-To-Body battery architecture providing additional structural strength, increases interior space, and improves stability and handling.
Additionally, the Flyme Auto Connectivity System (developed by the Geely-owned smartphone maker Meizu) integrates with the local IHU system, supported by a Telematic Service Provider for advanced functions. According to the automaker, the development of chassis involves conducting 700,000 manhours and 10 million kilometers of testing. Over one hundred Proton engineers contributed to the project, the automaker says, which helps ensuring the vehicle meets the needs of Malaysian consumers.
Proton says the e.MAS 7 will be launched officially later this year, so expect detailed specs like horsepower figures and more to be revealed by then. Currently, there is limited competition on the EV crossover/SUV segment, so the national automaker is poised to fill this gap if the price is competitive against models like Tesla’s Model Y or smart #1.
Pokdepinion: Looks very different from the likes of X70 SUV, that’s for sure.
