[Computex 2024] Acer’s SpatialLabs Eyes Wants To Bring 3D Photos Back To Mainstream

You may have remembered 3D being a fad among TVs in the previous decade, but it’s making a silent return into the PC market with some niche models emerging from something like Acer’s SpatialLabs lineup. The company is doubling down in its efforts, which comes in the form of the SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera.
It is designed for photographers to capture and view stereoscopic 3D images, which is fully compatible with Acer’s SpatialLabs suite. The compact camera(s) packs an 8MP sensor on each side, with a built-in selfie mirror and a ‘weatherproof’ exterior. Like any digital camera, it has auto and touch focus, Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS), and manual mode options for finer control over how the image will be.
It seems apparent that Acer wants you to take this camera out there and record memories in three-dimensional form, which can viewed in compatible devices – a.k.a. any product with a SpatialLabs name on it. If you’re daring enough, the camera even supports 3D video calls through apps like Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Google Meet, though we’re unsure how will that look like from another user’s perspective with a standard 2D display.
Still, the SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Red Dot and iF Design Awards, and Acer wants developers to feed into the ecosystem by introducing an expanded array of developer tools, including plug-ins for Unreal and Unity, as well as the upcoming SpatialLabs Model Viewer Pro application.
The Acer SpatialLabs Eyes Stereo Camera will be made available in NA and EMEA regions starting Q3 2024 at the price of $549 / EUR 549.
Pokdepinion: This somewhat reminds of the RED Hydrogen One in more ways than one.
