The gaming handheld market is pretty competitive from the likes of ASUS ROG Ally X, MSI Claw, and Steam Deck, and Lenovo has previously introduced a high-end offering in the form of Legion Go with specs and features to match. While leaks do indicate that existence of a smaller model, the recent findings from Reddit (subsequently reported by Videocardz) may be an example of AI pulling up its classic trick: hallucination.
Legion Go “Lite”: AI-Generated Specs?
Before delving into the alleged specs of the miniaturized Legion Go variant, let’s go through the specs of the model currently available. It comes with a 8.8-inch QHD+ display with 144Hz refresh rate, 16GB LPDDR5X-7500 RAM, up to 1TB storage, with a detachable controller design similar to Nintendo Switch. All in all, a premium gaming handheld.
However, the FAQ from the Lenovo UK’s webpage (which has since been taken down) seems to indicate it’ll sport a 7-inch display, comes with an HDMI port, and a dual-fan cooling system. On paper, nothing out of the ordinary – but when you read through the sentences carefully, the way the answers are written and constructed seems a bit… synthetic.
Take the first question, for example. We know that the Legion Go comes with a 8.8-inch display, but the FAQ response only approximates it to just 8 inches. Rounding off a whole 0.8 inches (which mathematically isn’t even the most accurate way to do so) doesn’t jive with GamesRadar’s editor Phil Hayton, who proceeds to dig deeper and published the findings on this article. In essence, the texts were fed into AI detection tools and found to be “likely AI-generated”.
It’s also worth considering the logic behind the supposedly dual-fan designs. Assuming the smaller Legion Go does come in 7 inches, this likely means a smaller chassis. Gaming handhelds already lack a lot of space to fit the parts that makes it a functioning PC, so a dual-fan system doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense considering the original model comes with just one fan that takes care of the Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip.
So, is the Legion Go “Lite” happening? Sources from earlier this year seems to indicate so, however this is as far as we know at this point. You can mostly ignore the one discovered recently, unless further evidences corroborate such claims.
