Samsung is already gearing up for the release of its next midrange contender, the Galaxy A36, the successor to the Galaxy A35 which launched earlier this year in March. In a surprising development, a prototype Galaxy A36 has been spotted on Geekbench running Android 15, giving us an early look at what’s to come.
Samsung Galaxy A36: Android 15 Out of the Box?
Google officially launched Android 15 for its Pixel devices just yesterday, but Samsung isn’t expected to roll out this version until early next year. It will likely make its debut on the Galaxy S25 series in January. The fact that the Galaxy A36 is being tested with Android 15 suggests that it might not hit the market until after the S25 family launches.
Given that Samsung’s lower-end Galaxy A16 5G comes with a promise of six major Android updates, the Galaxy A36 is expected to receive the same treatment. If it ships with Android 15 from day one, this would mean the device could see updates all the way up to Android 21, ensuring long-term software support for users.
Snapdragon Power

Interestingly, the Galaxy A36 will reportedly ditch Samsung’s in-house Exynos 1380 chipset, which powered the Galaxy A35, and instead, the A36 will feature either the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 or the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset based on its GPU. The tested prototype comes with 6GB of RAM, though additional memory configurations could be available at launch.
With its combination of Android 15, long-term software support, and a new Snapdragon chipset, the Galaxy A36 is shaping up to be a compelling mid-range option in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to its official announcement.
Pokdepinion: It’s insane to think of a device that can last all the way to Android 21, or whatever Android it will be called by then. I do have high hopes for this device given how good the Galaxy A series has been for a few years straight.
