This TV maker will start making face masks because they can
A lot of factories making our daily tech gadgets actually observe very high standards of hygiene and cleanliness. But perhaps they didn’t think of using that to their advantage like this. Sharp is reportedly planning to make face masks at its Kameyama plant in Japan.
The plant usually produces LCD panels and assembles their TVs, but they will transition to make face masks instead. Sharp plans to make 150 000 masks a day by the end of the month, with the goal being 500 000 masks a day.
Face masks are pretty in demand right now, especially with the recent COVID-19 outbreak. With masks sold out everywhere, having more companies making masks might actually improve the current situation where unscrupulous scalpers are charging ridiculous amounts for masks, and satisfy the demand for masks.
With that said, face masks are commonly worn in Japan’s urban areas to prevent spreading illnesses anyway, so it’s not like Sharp is only banking on the COVID-19 epidemic to succeed in their face mask business.
Pricing and distribution has yet to be confirmed for Sharp’s mask, and also there’s no mention whether they will actually sell them under the Sharp brand.
What do you think of Sharp diversifying into the face mask-making business?
Pokdepinion: Yeah I have not seen face masks in stock anywhere since the start of the COVID-19 outbreak.
