HUAWEI may leapfrog Samsung with foldable phones — all in the name of innovation?
Samsung may have successfully manufactured and certified their flexible OLED displays, but they don’t seem ready to mass produce the new screens. HUAWEI might just use flexible OLED panels by Chinese display manufacturer, BOE, to make the first foldable smartphone in the market.
HUAWEI has been known to be at the forefront of technology, with their adoption of AI being the most recent one. They were the first to incorporate NPUs into their Kirin 970, accelerating AI-related tasks. HUAWEI definitely didn’t refrain from bragging about it every chance they had.
This new foldable smartphone will give them yet another bragging right, and this time rightly so. Beating a brand which produces OLED panels in-house at making a new smartphone form factor is definitely a noteworthy achievement. However HUAWEI isn’t expected to mass produce their upcoming foldable smartphone either, limiting it to a short run of special edition devices.
Would you get one of them when it comes out? Let us know!
