This Visually-Impaired Lady Won a Prize for the Huawei NEXT-IMAGE Photography Awards 2018
The folks over at Huawei has finally wrapped up their 3-month long “AI as the Eyes” campaign today in a closing ceremony held at Sunway Pyramid. The ceremony saw Jamaliah Binti Mohd Yasin awarded by Huawei with the Special Recognition Prize for her entries in the NEXT-IMAGE Photography Awards 2018.
Why did she receive such an award? Believe it or not, Jamaliah Binti Mohd Yasin is visually-impaired and is the only one with her condition to participate in the competition. To be more precise, Jamaliah is a mother of two and grandmother of three whose condition is classified as B1 for total visual impairment.
It’s worth noting that this isn’t some participation award given out as pity because the photos that she herself took is absolutely stunning. With the advent of AI technology, people with certain disabilities are now able to do things they normally wouldn’t be able to, and this was made possible for Jamaliah thanks to Huawei AI and the P20 Pro smartphone.
Huawei collaborated with Plus Community and the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) to teach them photography skills, specifically how to express their inner selves and to envision their surroundings with the help of the Huawei P20 Pro’s AI technology. The event also saw the participants who have completed the Sensory Photography classes receiving certificates of completion.
If you’d like to see their photos, as well as photos from the NEXT-IMAGE Photography Awards 2018, Huawei will be having a photo exhibition showcasing their entries at Sunway Pyramid from today until this Sunday (18th November 2018). It will be located at LG2, Central Avenue, Sunway Pyramid.
Pokdepinion: I’m not gonna lie, I personally have trouble taking photos that good and my vision is supposedly perfect. Maybe I should have her coach me on photography. Either way, I was blown away by the pictures Jamaliah submitted.
