Intel Hands Over Its NUC Business To ASUS With Non-Exclusive Licensing Agreement
Last week we reported Intel have announced its withdrawal from the NUC (Next Unit of Computing) business, and will leave the market for established OEMs who already designed similar products to take over from there. However, the latest announcement from Team Blue has assured that its NUC products isn’t dead yet.
Per press release, Intel has signed a new agreement with ASUS – resulting in latter now responsible for the support of existing NUC products (10th gen to 13th gen), and any NUC models in the future, based on Intel’s future CPU architectures. This will be a separate business unit from the Taiwanese company’s mini-PC division.
“Our NUC systems product team delivered unique products that spurred innovation in the ultra-small form factor market. As we pivot our strategy to enable ecosystem partners to continue NUC systems product innovation and growth, our priority is to ensure a smooth transition for our customers and partners. I am looking forward to ASUS continuing to deliver exceptional products and supporting our NUC systems customers,” says Sam Gao, Intel vice president and general manager of Intel Client Platform Solutions.
Expect the innovative designs and form factors coming out of Team Blue’s factory to live on – with the new non-exclusive licensing agreement, ASUS will keep the lights on for the NUC series products moving forward.
Pokdepinion: Let’s hope we continue to see more innovative designs from NUC models in the future, with ASUS’s experience in the PC field.
