AMD’s Ryzen Master is the first-party tuning software for its processors, and recently it has been updated with several major upgrades, including a big lifesaver for novice users – it is now possible to enable EXPO memory overclocking without a system reboot.
New AMD Ryzen Master Update
Of course, this is one of the many updates listed in the changelog (others including finer clockspeed adjustment and 105W Eco Mode support for select Ryzen 9000 chips), but negating the need to restart the system to apply EXPO profiles should be a great time saver, especially if you’re doing performance comparisons.
In case you didn’t know, EXPO (Extended Profiles for Overclocking) is AMD’s equivalent to Intel XMP, which provides an overclocking preset that you can enable directly on your system to instantly gain performance beyond the standard (JEDEC) speeds. For this update, it looks like beyond EXPO, users can modify more timing adjustments on-the-fly, which should make the overclocking process easier for those willing to squeeze even more performance than advertised.
That said, it’s worth noting that this version has also dropped support for Ryzen 1000 and 2000 processors (plus their Threadripper counterparts), making this the first version to not be supported by all Ryzen processors in existence.
