If you’re a frequent user of OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot, there is a new feature that may interest you. The company announced it is currently beta testing a new feature called ‘scheduled tasks’, available to paying users – though there will be plans to expand access when it is generally available.
ChatGPT Adds Scheduled Tasks

As it says on the tin, scheduled tasks are a way for users to assign the chatbot to do something during a specific time of day, either one-off or a recurring task (up to 10 can be active at any time). Examples include, “remind me about my mom’s birthday” or “practice French with me daily”, and OpenAI’s support article even suggested letting the chatbot to curate daily news for you. I wouldn’t recommend this personally – AI hallucination is still a thing, after all. Always check your sources!
Either way, these tasks can be assigned through ChatGPT Web, iOS, Android, or macOS version of the app – Windows users with the app will have to wait until later in Q1 2025 to get this feature. When a task is completed, users will be notified through their device or platform of choice, though you can configure this in the settings.

One thing to note, while the task assigned will be performed even when you’re offline, every output consumes GPT-4o allocation, so too many of them may end up exhausting the quota and prevents the tasks from working. In its current form, voice chats, file uploads, and GPTs won’t work with the tasks feature, the company noted; you’ll also need Plus, Pro, or Team subscription to access the feature for now.
Pokdepinion: This sounds pretty useful all things considered.
