Meta Expands Its AI Chatbot To More Of Its Apps In Latest Testing
As TechCrunch reports, Meta is introducing its in-development AI chatbot into more of its apps, currently under testing in India and some regions in Africa. Previously, the Meta AI was spotted in a beta WhatsApp build, and Instagram was found to contain references to a similar feature. The company’s AI uses its in-house LLaMA language model.

The latest round of tests involves all three messaging-capable apps including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Messenger; all of which can account for several billions of users (for reference, the Earth has nearly 8 billion humans today). India alone occupies 500 million Facebook and WhatsApp users and is currently Meta’s largest market.
Meta has confirmed to the publication in a statement: “Our generative AI-powered experiences are under development in varying phases, and we’re testing a range of them publicly in a limited capacity.” The AI was originally launched back in last September, however, we have yet to see a full-scale release of the chatbot in any of Meta’s apps so far. Compare that to Microsoft and Google – both of which are aggressively fighting for the market share – Meta’s AI efforts seem to be falling behind.
However, the integration is what counts. Google is making inroads mainly via Bard, Google Search (SGE), and Android (such as Circle to Search); while Microsoft is pushing hard to introduce Copilot AI to as many Windows PCs as possible. Both of these platforms may not have the interaction level that social media platforms possess – and that’s where the massive userbase from the social media giant can prove to be an advantage, even if the company is falling behind in the AI arms race today.
