Instagram Is Testing AI Chatbots, Just Because
Emotional support AIs?
AI is all the craze these days, and to be fair – there are places where it can be proven pretty useful. As far as we can tell, Instagram’s recent implementation of AI as they test things out may seem to make a whole lot less sense.
Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi (@alex193a) has dug up a section within Instagram where the app introduces AI to the user. Based on the screenshot, it looks like the purpose of the AI is not to optimize search feeds or whatnot – it is simply there as a good-old chatbot, like your regular ChatGPT does. However, given that Instagram is less of a search engine and more of a social media platform, it looks like the AI will be designed to engage in conversations to whoever that needs some virtual company (it even comes with 30 personalities to choose from).
That doesn’t mean the AI will be relegated entirely as an emotional support chatbot – the final point does mention that it will offer creativity help for those who create and post content on the platform. On that note, it’s also similar (perhaps not-so-coincidentally) to Snapchat’s My AI feature which offers similar feature sets.
As for when this feature will be introduced, this remains a big question mark for now. That said, given that it has already leaked on the Internet, it won’t be long before Meta formally announces it – especially given their relatively aggressive feature update cadence as of late.

Pokdepinion: I guess I’m not surprised if this is made in response to Snapchat (yet again) – but we’ll see how it works out.
