ASUS has recently announced a new gaming laptop lineup, now available in Malaysia – however, it doesn’t feature any distinct sub-brand (i.e. ROG, TUF Gaming, PRIME etc), and instead stick to simple and generic names. In this case, we have two new laptops: ASUS Gaming V16 and K16.

ASUS Gaming V16 / K16

Notably, both laptops largely share their designs with Vivobooks: the V16 is based on the newly-redesigned Vivobook series (like this one), while the K16 features a repurposed Vivobook chassis from the previous generation (the product page even has the imagery clearly indicating Vivobook branding despite the lack of such branding in its name).

Internally, both laptops feature more potent hardware, with the Gaming V16 packing Intel Core 5 210H (essentially an improved version of Core i5-13420H) NVIDIA RTX 4050 graphics, 16GB DDR5 RAM, 512GB SSD, although display is one of the corners cut to save cost. Specifically, it is a 16-inch FHD+ 144Hz panel with only 45% NTSC gamut coverage, so color reproduction won’t be its strong point. On the subject of colors, you do get RGB-lit keyboard with translucent WASD and arrow keys to give it a bit more gaming flair.

As for the Gaming K16, the hardware options are quite a bit more dated in comparison, with CPU options including Intel Core i5-12500H and Core i5-13420H, while GPU options include RTX 4050, RTX 3050, and RTX 2050. Memory options is now 8GB or 16GB DDR4, while display options include the aforementioned 45% NTSC panel or one with 100% sRGB gamut plus factory calibration (resolution and refresh rate figures are identical). All three variants share the same 512GB SSD storage as standard.

Given that these laptops don’t exactly feature groundbreaking hardware, the prices are very much slashed down to the bottom of the gaming laptop spectrum. Prices start as low as RM2,999 for the Gaming K16, while the Gaming V16 is only available in one variant costing RM3,999 apiece.
