Unboxing the Razer Iskur V2 X

Kicking off our Razer Iskur V2 X review with the unboxing, it comes in a large cardboard box with Razer design elements in a mix of black and typical cardboard brown. There’s not much details on the product around it as it’s not the kind of packaging that’s meant for store shelves. Inside the box, we found the following items:

- Protective gloves (black and green, optional to use)

- Welcome card with instructions
- Hex screwdriver
- Screws
- 5 x casters
- Top and bottom halves of the Razer Iskur V2 X

Assembly

Assembling the Razer Iskur V2 x is a pretty easy process, even for one person. Razer has also gone out of their way to make a step-by-step guide that’s simple and easy to follow, which you can see from the picture above. It’s also great that they included extra sheets of protective foam for you to build on, which they claim is to protect the product from damage but realistically, it’s more to protect your floor / carpet from unintended damage. The process can be simplified with the following steps:
- Install the caster wheels on the base by simply putting the casters into its respective holes.
- Install the tube, along with the plastic cups that make up its cover, on the base.
- Remove the screws on the bottom of the backrest.
- Install the mounting plate here using the same screws you removed in the previous step.
- Place the seat unto the base via the tube installed in step 2.
- Remove the top and bottom screws on both sides of the backrest.
- Install the backrest on the seat, making sure to align and slide in one side to its respective holder, and screw in both sides with the top and bottom screws removed in the previous step.
- Install the included plastic covers on the sides by screwing the middle hole from the outside of the cover.
- Place the two plastic covers over the middle hole on both sides to give it a more uniformed look (optional).
- Enjoy the chair.

The process took me about 30-ish minutes without anyone helping me, so you definitely can assemble one yourself. It’s also great that you don’t require any tools whatsoever as Razer has included everything you need in the box, including a spare screw and a Hex screwdriver for it. Do keep in mind that 8 of the 9 needed screws are pre-installed, as mentioned in their step-by-step guide, so the one that’s in the box is just a spare. It’s not exactly heavy but if you’re not particularly confident about your own strength, try to ask someone for help when you’re finally putting the backrest in place as that’s the only part that involves heavy lifting.
The Good

There are a number of good reasons to consider getting the Razer Iskur V2 X. For starters, the build quality is pretty good, especially considering that this is the “essential” version of the original Iskur V2. You get a good amount of cushioning and it feels very solidly built. No odd creakings or any sensation of it falling apart in any way so if yours does, you might want to consider reassembling it or sending it back to the store if you notice any odd deformities.
While it’s no surprise that you can recline the chair, up to 152°, it’s great that you can easily lock it into any angle up to the aforementioned limit. This also means that you aren’t limited to arbitrary angles per adjustment. This gives every owner more versatility in how to use the chair for any occasion, including the angle where you’re almost practically lying down on the chair. Given that it’s on wheels, I do feel a bit scared when I recline it to it’s furthest angle but that’s just me not getting used to movement as I’m trying to somewhat lie down.

The Razer Iskur V2 X is generally a very comfortable chair to use. The material is mostly fabric, which is breathable in nature so heat won’t get trapped, and it’s rather plush. The built-in lumbar support does its job surprisingly well, though that will be highly dependent on your body size so your mileage may vary. Moreover, the widened seat base gives you a bigger surface area to sit on and allows for a bit more flexibility in how you want to see, with the only limiting factor here being the position of the arm rest.
Speaking of which, the arm rest itself is adjustable, both in terms of swivel (inwards, standard, and outwards) and height. The chair itself can swivel smoothly with absolutely zero noise, and the wheels easily glide in silence across my floors (ceramic tiles and carpet). It’s not perfect by any means and there is an area that needs some improvements but I’ll go into that in the next section.
The Bad

Of course, the Razer Iskur V2 X has its share of drawbacks. For starters, while I do like how well the built-in lumbar support works, that may only apply to people of my size. If your upper body is a short, it may feel a little off. In this case, you might need to invest in some form of cushioning for better lumbar support. I wished they included an adjustable lumbar support for this chair but that might result in increasing costs.
While a lumbar cushion might not be necessary for everyone, the one thing that isn’t included but I believe is necessary is a neck / head cushion. Without it, you can’t exactly fully rest on the backrest without having your neck in an awkward position. You can get one from Razer for RM239 but I do wish they would have included one in the box from the get-go.
The previous point might make me sound a bit demanding but I have a good reason for it. After all, the Razer Iskur V2 X is retailing for RM1,599, which is rather steep for an “essential” edition gaming chair. For that price, I would have loved to see some form of neck support included but without it, I feel like they should have limited the price to RM1,200 at most but that price might still be possible during certain promotional periods.
Razer Iskur V2 X Verdict

The Razer Iskur V2 X is actually a pretty good gaming chair. It’s easy to assemble, comfortable, and the build quality is pretty solid. Sure, it has its drawbacks but you can easily figure out a solution to them, which may include buying cushions from other brands as a means of saving money. There are only 3 reasons why you shouldn’t get this chair, and that’s if your budget can’t stretch a little past its retail price as you need to factor in additional cushions, you prefer something with more luxuries (like a massage feature), or you don’t fit in the recommended weight / size requirement.
At the end of our Razer Iskur V2 X review, I award this gaming chair with our Silver Pokdeward.

Big thanks to Razer Asia Pacific for sending us this gaming chair for the purpose of this review.
