Maxis has contributed 15 refurbished laptops to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to support underprivileged students in their tertiary studies. The telco has already distributed more than 1,000 refurbished laptops to education and community causes over the past three years.

Maxis Donates Refurbished Laptops Under Circularity Initiative

Under its circularity initiatives, Maxis “services and reconditions” retired enterprise laptops before donating them to “community partners and students,” the company said. The refurbished devices given to UKM undergraduates are intended to provide “dependable access to coursework and online academic resources.”

Maxis also contributes refurbished laptops to schools and community centers nationwide – secondary school students benefit from the program through Menuju Gemilang, a joint initiative with the Ministry of Education aimed at helping underprivileged students perform well in SPM and prepare for higher education. By extending the useful life of retired enterprise devices, the program reduces e-waste and promotes responsible technology use.

“It is essential for students to have access to the tools and learning resources needed to achieve their academic goals. We welcome this practical support, which helps ease financial pressures on our students,” said Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sufian Jusoh, Vice-Chancellor of UKM. “Active collaboration between universities and corporate partners plays an important role in closing the digital divide, and ongoing industry support is vital to preparing future-ready talent,” he continued.

Azizul Abdul Rahman, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Maxis, said, “Guided by our belief that Tomorrow Begins Today, this initiative reflects our commitment to digital inclusion and responsible technology use. Reaching this milestone of 1,000 refurbished laptops demonstrates how circularity can create meaningful community impact. With this latest handover, we hope the devices will ease daily learning challenges for UKM students as they work towards their academic goals.”

The laptop contributions complement Maxis’ wider community education efforts, including the Menuju Gemilang program and the GenAI eKelas program. Both initiatives, the telco says, are part of ongoing efforts to improve digital access and build technology literacy across Malaysia.
