Grab Malaysia has introduced a new “Kid-Friendly Rides” feature designed for families travelling with children aged 4-12 years. The feature – currently in beta testing – allows users to book Standard 6-seaters with a dedicated booster seat provided by Koopers, operated by specially-trained drivers.
Grab Malaysia Pilots Kid-Friendly Rides Feature
Kid-Friendly Rides (Beta) is currently available exclusively via Advance Booking for airport trips to and from KLIA 1 and KLIA 2 – the rollout will expand progressively across the wider Klang Valley, followed by Penang and Johor Bahru in subsequent phases.

To book, users open the Grab app, tap “Car”, then select the “Advance Booking” tile to schedule a pickup time. After entering the airport pickup or drop-off location, the Kid-Friendly Rides option appears under Standard 6-Seater or Grab EV Exec vehicle categories. On Standard 6-Seater rides, each booking includes one booster seat for a RM10 add-on fee. On Grab EV Exec rides, a Koopers Boost Fix booster seat is included as a free value-added feature.
Child restraint systems have been mandatory in Malaysia since 1 January 2020, yet adoption remains low; research conducted by governmental agency MIROS indicates that booster seats reduce injury risk by 45% for children aged 4-8 compared with seat belts alone, making the accessibility of proper child restraints a legitimate road safety concern. MIROS guidelines note that it is crucial in selecting a restraint appropriate for the child’s size and installing it correctly on every journey.
Pokdepinion: It’s a neat option, though you could hardly find a family without a car in a society as car-centric as Malaysia’s.
