Unboxing the UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger With Retractable Cable

The UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger with Retractable Cable arrives in packaging that is simple yet effective. The box cover carries an illustration of the charger alongside highlights of its key features, giving you a clear picture of what you are getting before you open it. The box itself is notably solid, sturdy enough that normal shipping handling should not be a concern. Inside you get the charger itself and documentation. There is no additional cable included beyond the built-in retractable one, which is consistent with the product’s positioning as a self-contained charging solution.
Editor’s Note: This is not to be confused with the UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W charger with 4 ports as that’s a different, older product from UGREEN. If you have trouble finding it, the full product name is “UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger with Retractable Cable“.
Walkaround

The UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger with Retractable Cable is a large charger, and it makes no attempt to hide that. Delivering 160W across multiple ports simultaneously requires volume, and the physical footprint reflects that reality. That said, for a charger of this capability, the size is well-managed and the build quality communicates the premium positioning clearly. The casing is smooth, the corners are rounded, and the overall construction feels dense and well-assembled with no flex or creaking anywhere on the body.
The defining design feature is the built-in retractable USB-C cable, which sits flush with the charger body when not in use and extends cleanly to a useful working length when needed. The retraction mechanism is smooth and does not require force in either direction, and the cable itself has a braided finish that feels durable rather than the thin rubber-coated cables that cheaper chargers bundle. The retractable cable eliminates the single most common source of travel charger frustration, which is arriving at a destination and realising the cable is in a different bag, on a different desk, or simply missing entirely.
The port layout gives you three USB-C ports and one USB-A port on the face of the charger, with the retractable cable emerging from the side. The arrangement keeps the ports accessible without clustering them in a way that causes physical adapter conflicts, and the LED indicator light confirms active charging status at a glance without being distractingly bright.
The GaN technology running through the Nexode Pro is what enables the combination of high wattage output and manageable physical size. Without GaN, a charger capable of 160W total output would be considerably larger and heavier, and the thermal efficiency of GaN also means the charger runs cooler under load than a traditional silicon-based charger of equivalent power would.

The Good
160W Total Output That Handles a Full Desk Without Compromise

In real-world testing with a 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 Max, iPhone 17 Pro, Apple AirPods 5, and a Samsung Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus all connected simultaneously, the Nexode Pro distributed power intelligently without any device dropping to trickle charge rates or behaving as though it was being underserved.
The MacBook Pro negotiated up to 100W on USB-C Port 1 alone when used as the sole connected device, and in a four-device scenario the distribution kept every device charging at a meaningful rate. The specific combinations worth knowing are C1 plus C2 delivering 140W and 20W respectively, C1 plus C3 delivering 100W and 45W, and a three-port C1 plus C2 plus C3 combination delivering 100W, 30W, and 20W. For a desk setup or travel kit that needs to service a laptop, a phone, a tablet, and earbuds from a single wall outlet, these figures represent a genuinely complete solution.
It’s worth noting that 96W is the max speed the aforementioned MacBook Pro can charge with. 140W is only available for the 16-inch model. With that being said, it’s still packing plenty of power so you should still be able to charge at full speed for most scenarios, with the exception of when all 4 ports being used so C1 is capped at 65W.
The Retractable Cable Solves a Real Problem

The built-in retractable USB-C cable rated at 100W is the feature that makes the Nexode Pro more than just a powerful multi-port charger. The practical problem it solves is not just cable management but the reliability of always having a cable available. When the cable is part of the charger rather than a separate accessory, it cannot be left behind, lost in a bag, or borrowed and not returned. For travel use specifically, this single feature justifies a significant portion of the price premium over a standard multi-port charger. The braided construction and smooth retraction mechanism also suggest it is built to withstand daily deployment rather than being a delicate feature that degrades quickly with use.
Broad Charging Standard Compatibility with USB PD 3.1 at 140W Opening Up High-Wattage Laptop Charging

USB PD 3.1, PPS, QC 5.0, QC 4+, QC 3.0, Apple Fast Charge, Samsung Fast Charge, Huawei FCP, and SCP collectively cover the fast charging standards of virtually every major smartphone, tablet, and laptop currently sold. In testing, the MacBook Pro M3 Max charged at full negotiated speed, the iPhone 17 Pro fast charged without needing to use a specific port, and the Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus maintained Samsung fast charging rates throughout. The breadth of compatibility means the Nexode Pro does not play favourites between ecosystems, which is a meaningful practical advantage for households or travellers who carry devices from multiple brands.
USB PD 3.1 with Extended Power Range support, which allows for power delivery above the previous 100W ceiling up to 240W in the specification, means the Nexode Pro can fully fast-charge laptops that support higher wattage PD input. For users who want a single cable charging solution for a high-performance laptop alongside other devices, this compatibility is a prerequisite that the Nexode Pro meets directly.
GaN Efficiency Keeps Thermals Manageable

Under a full four-device charging load, the Nexode Pro runs warm but not hot. The GaN technology enables the charger to convert power more efficiently than traditional silicon-based designs, which means less energy is wasted as heat. In practice this translates to a charger that can be left running for extended periods without the kind of heat buildup that raises concern about placement near other items or on sensitive surfaces.
Build Quality Matches the Price

At RM419, the Nexode Pro needs to feel like a premium product, and it does. The solid casing, the braided retractable cable, the precise port placement, and the satisfying physical density of the charger all communicate a product built to last rather than one optimised for manufacturing cost. The packaging construction also speaks to this, arriving in a box solid enough to survive normal shipping handling without concern.
The Bad
Price Is the Primary Barrier

At RM419, the UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger with Retractable Cable is a premium purchase that requires a clear use case to justify. For a single-device user who needs to charge one phone or tablet, the value proposition is difficult to make. The price makes most sense for users who are genuinely servicing multiple high-powered devices simultaneously from a single outlet, particularly a laptop plus several smaller devices, or for frequent travellers who want to consolidate their entire charging kit into one unit. For casual or single-device use, more affordable alternatives exist.
It’s worth noting that you can get it for cheaper depending on when you buy. Just be sure to keep an eye out on Shopee and Lazada’s promotion periods to maximize your discounts.
Retractable Cable Is Not Replaceable, No Extra Cables in Box

The built-in retractable cable is one of the Nexode Pro’s strongest practical features, but it is permanently integrated into the charger body. If the cable develops a fault, wears through at the connector end, or is damaged, the entire charger becomes impacted. UGREEN builds it durably and the braided construction is more robust than a rubber-coated cable would be, but the non-replaceable nature of the cable is a long-term ownership consideration that is worth being aware of. It would also have been great if they included one cable inside the box as well.
Size May Be Limiting in Tight Outlet Configurations

The physical bulk required to deliver 160W means the Nexode Pro takes up meaningful space at a wall outlet. In outlet configurations where two sockets are close together, the charger body may partially obstruct the adjacent socket depending on the wall plate geometry. For travel adapters with multiple outlets in a compact strip, the size can be a genuine inconvenience. Something that you should keep in mind is that if you’re traveling to a country that would require the use of an adapter, it might be loose if it’s plugged to the wall, though surface-level plugs (like the ones embedded on a table) should work perfectly fine.
USB-A Port Output Is Capped at 22.5W

The single USB-A port delivers up to 22.5W, which covers most USB-A fast charging scenarios but will not satisfy devices that require higher USB-A output rates. For most current devices this is sufficient, and the USB-A port is arguably the lowest priority output on a charger of this capability, but users with specific high-draw USB-A devices should verify compatibility before purchase.
UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger with Retractable Cable Verdict

The UGREEN Nexode Pro 160W Charger with Retractable Cable is the kind of product that makes you reconsider how many individual chargers and cables you actually need on a desk or in a travel bag. The combination of 160W total output intelligently distributed across four ports plus a built-in retractable 100W cable, GaN efficiency that keeps thermals sensible under full load, and compatibility with virtually every fast charging standard in current use adds up to a genuinely complete charging solution.
In real-world testing across a MacBook Pro M3 Max, iPhone 17 Pro, AirPods 5, and Galaxy Tab S10 FE Plus running simultaneously, every device received meaningful charging rates without any of them being deprioritised to the point of frustration. The retractable cable solved the specific problem of cable availability in a way that a charger with only fixed ports simply cannot, and the build quality throughout justifies the premium positioning.
The price is the most significant consideration. At RM419, the Nexode Pro is an investment that makes clear sense for multi-device power users, frequent travellers, and anyone consolidating a cluttered charging setup. For casual single-device users, the value case is harder to make and more affordable alternatives exist. If the use case fits, this is the last charger you will want to buy for a long time.
