Gentari and BYD Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore the development and deployment of BYD Flash Charging infrastructure in Malaysia. The signing took place on 21 October 2026 in Shenzhen, Guangdong, and marks a formal step toward bringing high-power EV charging technology to Malaysian roads.
BYD Flash Charging To Be Deployed In Malaysia

Under the MoU, Gentari and BYD Malaysia will work together to identify suitable locations for BYD Flash Charging infrastructure, with a focus on key intercity corridors connecting major population centers. The parties will also assess supporting power infrastructure, battery energy storage system (BESS) requirements, technical and commercial considerations, and potential operating models for deployment at scale.
Beyond EV charging, the collaboration will also explore opportunities in renewable energy generation and energy storage, drawing on Gentari’s clean energy expertise and BYD’s capabilities in battery and energy storage technology. The MoU was signed by Gentari’s Group CEO Sushil Purohit and BYD Malaysia’s Managing Director Jacob Ma. The ceremony was witnessed by Wang Chuanfu, Chairman of BYD Group, alongside senior representatives from PETRONAS, Gentari, and BYD.
Malaysia recorded 53,537 new EV registrations in the first nine months of 2026, representing a 98.8% increase from the same period in 2025; the country is targeting 30,000 public EV charging points nationwide by 2030 as part of its broader vehicle electrification agenda. To accommodate the expansion of EVs, faster charging is one way of making sure each charging bay can serve more EVs in a specific time period, and to that end, BYD Flash Charging is capable of delivering approximately 400 kilometers of driving range in as little as five minutes.
Pokdepinion: Now the question is, how many EVs can handle fast charging this powerful?
