Apple has released iOS 27.2 software update for all eligible Apple devices, including the newly-launched iPhone Duo. The update brings a range of new features across Messages, FaceTime, Photos, Podcasts, and Apple TV, and can be downloaded via Settings > General > Software Update.

iOS 27.2 Highlights

Messages gains a new Suggestions feature that detects context from ongoing conversations and surfaces quick actions in apps like Calendar and Reminders, reducing the need to switch between apps manually. FaceTime receives two notable updates in iOS 27.2 – Dual Capture, which previously allowed simultaneous front and rear camera streaming, now extends to group calls; FaceTime also adds support for including a third-party sign language interpreter or live captioner directly within a call.

Shared Albums in Photos has been updated with the ability to edit captions and comments, duplicate photo detection, and expiry reminders so participants can save content before an album closes. The Games app gains a Friends tab that provides context on friend suggestions and displays recent games played on each friend’s player page.

Meanwhile, the Podcasts app receives an updated Up Next section in the Home tab, now split into two rows: New Episodes, which surfaces the latest content from followed shows, and Continue Playing, which organizes in-progress episodes by most recently played. Apple TV Profiles, which allows household members to maintain personalized viewing spaces without requiring an Apple account, is now available on iOS and iPadOS in addition to the web. The feature also supports content ratings for children.

Multiview, previously limited to Apple TV hardware, is now available on iPhone. The feature lets users watch up to four live sports streams simultaneously, with Major League Soccer, Formula 1 in the US, and Friday Night Baseball doubleheaders among supported formats. For Formula 1, users can select preset team Multiviews or build a custom layout using driver-view cameras, course maps, and other feeds.

iPhone Duo users get two exclusive additions: Apple Pencil (USB-C) support is now available, enabling drawing in Notes, document markup in Preview, and handwriting input via Scribble in any text field. The second addition is Edge Light, a video effect that uses the iPhone Duo display to illuminate a user’s face like a ring light during video calls in low-light conditions.

Pokdepinion: I wonder if that ring light feature can be carried over to regular iPhones, since it’s just utilizing the OLED tech after all.
