Lenovo Legion Go May Be The Company’s Answer To ROG Ally And Steam Deck, Sources Claim
Enter (major) player three: After Valve’s Steam Deck and ASUS’s ROG Ally, a third major player is about to enter the gaming handheld space, this time coming from Lenovo – according to Windows Central’s sources. Of course, many smaller handheld makers like AYANEO, GPD and ONEXPLAYER exists – but it’s only recently that major PC makers are taking notes.
Per source, the new handheld will be called “Legion Go”, and much like ROG Ally, it will be running on Windows 11 to ensure maximum compatibility on most games. The hardware is likely courtesy of AMD’s Zen 4 “Phoenix” APUs – or Ryzen 7040 series – but it’s more likely that Ryzen Z1 Extreme is on the cards once the exclusivity deal with ASUS ends some time in the future. The sources also say Legion Go will feature a slightly bigger 8-inch display, larger than both Ally and Deck.
However, it’s unclear if this is well into development or still at early decision-making phase. That being said, Lenovo did test waters on such form factors some time before in the form of Legion Play – another handheld that sports Android OS and runs cloud-based games (such as NVIDIA GeForce NOW), which requires minimal onboard processing. There’s some render images of the Legion Play model, which should give a few hints on Legion Go’s design if it were to be released at some point in the future.
Pokdepinion: The handheld space should be interesting to look at in the next few years.
