Let’s face it – this year’s Computex is so chock-full of AI, I wouldn’t blame you if you’re getting tired of hearing the hottest buzzword in 2024. So, shifting gears here into something I find genuinely exciting is the creation from ASUS’s ROG team, called “Project Dali”.

ROG Project Dali: The Best Kind Of Personalization?

Here’s how it works – ASUS has used a previous-gen Zephyrus G14 chassis and slapped a full-size E-ink panel on the lid of the display, which you can freely customize into whatever you wish. There is an UI presented in the prototype that allows you to put stickers, Kaomojis, and more into the editing section. I didn’t have the chance to really give it a try while I was on-site (Computex schedules can be super hectic), but I got the general gist of it.

So you may ask, is it going to use more power now that the entire lid is a giant slab of display? Here’s the neat part: because it’s E-ink, the display uses zero power when it’s static – power is only required to update the displayed content. If you’re familiar with E-readers, this is basically that, but much cooler. This means the battery life impact is minimal to practically zero, making it a much superior option over the AniMe Matrix that was implemented in the retail versions of this model. Side note, here’s how it looks up close:

You want one? I know I do. That said, keep in mind ROG Project Dali still a concept – it’s in the name, after all. Still, I’d imagine this is a very feasible concept to launch into the market if the cost isn’t too high, and besides, think of the creative ways people will utilize the E-ink display on the lid, such as putting an actual class timetable on the display – how cool is that for students’ cool factor? The sky is the limit!
