[Computex 2024] MSI PRO Series Monitors Are Getting The 120Hz Upgrade
Usually, the biggest priority for office monitors these days is to provide screen real estate, and minimize eye discomfort. That said, we’ve already seen displays transitioning to 120Hz in smartphones and laptops alike in recent years – so now, it’s time for MSI’s new PRO Series monitors to get the upgrade, where the existing lineup has only managed to reach 100Hz thus far.
MSI PRO MP271AP E2
Starting off with the PRO MP271AP E2 monitor, this is a 27-inch FHD IPS display with 120Hz refresh rate and, surprisingly, a very good pixel response time at just 1ms (MPRT). I’m not saying you should be using this monitor as a makeshift gaming monitor but, you technically could – just make sure your superior isn’t watching. Anyway, it also comes with slimmer bezels to better fit into multi-monitor setups, and there’s also a built-in FHD webcam above the display with onboard microphones ready to go.
One of the features of this monitor is called “Eye-Q Check”, which MSI describes “helps the user to have self-check eyes & reminds to take a rest” (admittedly, this isn’t the most grammatically correct sentence). We think this should be in the form of a built-in timer that informs the user to rest in certain time intervals, with perhaps a short information on how to properly rest the eyes. As usual, you get TÜV Rheinland-certified flicker-free and low blue light feature to reduce eye fatigue.
The monitor also supports mounting mini PCs from MSI (details here) behind the adjustable stand, and it can be paired with the monitor itself to enable Power Link support, which turn the mini PC on when you press the power button on the monitor (this uses HDMI CEC feature). In terms of I/O, you have HDMI 1.4b, DisplayPort 1.2a, VGA (D-Sub), two USB-A, and a USB 2.0 Type-B upstream port.
MSI PRO MP252 E2
The new PRO MP252 E2 is another 120Hz IPS monitor that features similar specs as its 27-inch sibling, although in this case you lose the built-in webcam, so you’ll need to bring your own to get it ready for conferencing work. It’s slightly larger among the 24-inch class monitors, measuring at 24.5 inches – though it’s still sporting a FHD resolution with 120Hz refresh rate, 1ms MPRT, and HDR support (though there’s no official VESA certification for this).
The adjustable stand supports mounting compatible mini PCs, with HDMI CEC support enabling power-on via the monitor. The base of the stand also features an accessory slot to place your smartphones, and a pair of 2W speakers take care of audio duty. I/O-wise, this is simplified down to just the HDMI 1.4b, DisplayPort 1.2a, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Pokdepinion: The difference betwen 60Hz and 120Hz is night and day (although I’m speaking from someone who daily drives 300Hz from the laptop).
