Battle royale was all the craze in the late 2010s, and while EA did release a game with this format many years ago in the form of Apex Legends based in Titanfall universe, the company this time is making a new one based on the Battlefield IP, dubbed REDSEC (short for Redacted Sector). Naturally, this new entry sets it sights on its rival’s BR-themed title, Call of Duty: Warzone.

Like Warzone, Battlefield REDSEC is free-to-play and aligns itself with contemporary paid releases, in this case the recently-launched Battlefield 6. While you probably know the basic rules of Battle Royale-style games, REDSEC takes Battlefield’s unique spin on it with the four classic classes that you choose from: Assault, Engineer, Support, and Recon. All action happens on the Fort Lyndon map, and newbies will start on a smaller version of this map to get familiar with in-game mechanics.

Besides the classic Battle Royale mode, REDSEC also introduces Gauntlet mode that brings eight squads of four in a round-based elimination match where players have to complete missions and get high scores to avoid elimination and win the match. There’s also Portal mode found in previous Battlefield releases, where community creators can build a custom map and unique game modes with ways beyond what developers envisioned.

Battlefield REDSEC is now available for free on all major platforms, including PC (EA App, Steam, Epic Games Store), Xbox, and PlayStation – if you’re playing on PC, make sure you have TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot enabled as you’ll be barred from accessing the game without them.
