Apple’s highly anticipated iPhone 16 series is set to launch on time in September, despite rumors suggesting that the Apple Intelligence suite may be delayed until October. In preparation for the release, Samsung and LG have begun mass production of display panels for the upcoming models.

According to reports from Korea, Apple has placed significant orders for display panels: 80 million from Samsung and 43 million from LG. With an estimated 90 million iPhone 16 units expected to ship this year, Apple has ordered approximately 30% more panels than the projected sales volume, indicating a strong anticipation of demand.

Both Samsung and LG are currently on track with their production schedules, fulfilling Apple’s order volume without delays. This is especially noteworthy for LG, which has historically faced delays in mass production. For the first time, LG is executing its production schedule smoothly, which is expected to boost its performance significantly.

LG stands to benefit the most from these orders, with a supply increase of around 10 million panels compared to the previous year. This has allowed LG to capture over 30% of the market share for iPhone display panels, sharing the pie with Samsung.

While Samsung’s overall order volume hasn’t seen a significant increase compared to previous years, the company holds a larger share of the panels for the more expensive iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models. These premium panels account for about 60% of Samsung’s supply to Apple, which is expected to result in higher revenue for the company.

China’s BOE, another potential supplier, is reportedly facing challenges in securing approval to supply panels for the iPhone 16 family. As a result, BOE may not be involved in this generation’s production, allowing Samsung and LG to dominate the supply chain for Apple’s flagship devices.

With the iPhone 16 series set to be the first to feature Apple Intelligence, market analysts predict a surge in demand, further fueling the excitement surrounding the upcoming launch.

Pokdepinion: It’s already August so it’s only to be expected. If they don’t do it this soon, then it’s just gonna be a pretty long pre-order period.
