HUAWEI has always focused on their camera prowess with their smartphones, but the HUAWEI Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro might sport an even greater emphasis on the camera, if these leaked renders are to be trusted. While the HUAWEI Mate 30 series touted a significant camera hump on the rear, it seems that HUAWEI will go for an even bigger one with the HUAWEI Mate 40 series.

The lesser of the duo, the HUAWEI Mate 40 is slated to sport a flat display just like its predecessor. The display appears to have been updated to sport a pill-shaped punch hole though, similar to what the HUAWEI P40 series’ have. Meanwhile over on the back, we see the camera hump that sports four holes, albeit with one that appears occluded. The HUAWEI Mate 30 sported a similar camera design, with the fourth hole belonging to a laser autofocusing module.

Despite some rather serious criticism on the Mate 30 Pro’s waterfall display, the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro looks like it will come with a similarly curved screen. However, it seems that HUAWEI will address some of the criticism by adding in the volume keys, which was the main reason for all the criticism. And it will come with a punch hole too.

On the back, the leaked renders hints at a periscopic zoom, which should be an upgrade to the zoom camera in the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro. Another interesting thing to note is the top of the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro. It appears to sport a headphone jack and a wider hole, presumably to accommodate stereo speakers. A late-2020 top-of-the-line flagship with a headphone jack? Well, I will be taking this bit of rumors with a healthy dose of salt.

HUAWEI is probably going to sport their next-gen Kirin chipset on these smartphones, and should launch their devices sometime later this year. However with the COVID-19 pandemic causing delays all over the supply chains, we aren’t sure if HUAWEI will be able to launch the HUAWEI Mate 40 series in a timely fashion.

Pokdepinion: I sure hope that white option for the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro is ceramic!
