If you’ve experienced through the tech industry in the early 2010s, you know that was the time when Microsoft was selling its Windows Phones under its Lumia brand. These phones featured the iconic bright color look, and that design is returning thanks to HMD Global, the makers of modern-day Nokia smartphones.
Lumia’s Revival

NokiaMob reported a leak that points to something called “Skyline”, the codename for the new upper mid-range smartphone that revisits the classic look of the Lumia 920. The original phone was powered by Windows Phone 8, but the new one will not have any trace of Windows on it – instead, it’s powered by Android. Elsewhere, the device will pack a 6.67-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel, Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 SoC paired with either 8GB or 12GB RAM, and 256GB of onboard storage.
The renders published by the outlet also shows a punch-hole camera (with a 32MP sensor), but are otherwise highly similar to the original Lumia smartphone that it is based on. One surprising returnee from the original is the headphone jack, a rarity on smartphones nowadays.
So, is there any chance those who longed for the successor of Lumia smartphones to get ahold of of this device here in Malaysia? We’ll have to see – while HMD does sell some of the Nokia phones here, it’s mostly the “dumb phones”, and the company has enjoyed greater presence in its home region, Europe. Perhaps someone can try download a Windows Phone-like theme to properly reminisce the good old days?

Pokdepinion: The smartphone market can do with more exciting designs for sure. While some brands have tried to make distinct designs, it’s usually one or the other forms of glass slab – which is somewhat monotonous to me.
