With the PC release of GTA V now reaching a full decade old, Rockstar has prepared some special gifts for the PC Master Race: ray tracing support, Frame Generation support courtesy of NVIDIA’s DLSS 3 and AMD’s FSR 3 technologies, and more.
GTA V PC Still Get Graphics Updates, 10 Years On

With so many copies of the game sold throughout the decade, you probably have one copy sitting in your Steam or Epic Games Store account – in that case, when you update the game to the “upgraded” version on March 4, the game will now get new graphical features including ray traced shadows and reflections (already available for the ninth generation consoles), plus PC-exclusive additions like ray traced ambient occlusion (RTAO) and ray traced global illumination (RTGI). Besides that, the video options has now been expanded to enable higher resolutions, aspect ratios, and framerates.
Notably, GTA V is also supporting frame generation via three options: NVIDIA DLSS 3, AMD FSR 3, and AMD FSR 1. We’ll have to assume the presence of FSR 1 is likely as a fallback for those preferring to use non-temporal solutions, though it’s unclear resolution upscaling is supported, given that it’s not explicitly mentioned in Rockstar’s blog post. Additionally, DirectStorage support is also introduced which should enable ultra-fast loading times, while the audio department now gets Dolby Atmos enhancements.

With the introduction of new graphical technologies, Rockstar has published an updated specification sheet that recommends GPUs with at least 8GB VRAM – RTX 3060 if you’re an NVIDIA user, or Radeon RX 6600 XT if you’re using a Team Red GPU. Processor requirements is quite lenient, requiring a six-core CPU like the Intel Core i5-9600K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 to get going (minimum specs go as far back as AMD’s infamous FX-series processors).
Of course, this will finally bring all PC players to feature parity against ninth-gen consoles, like the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The latest enhancements brought to console versions also include some content and map changes thanks to upgraded capabilities (such as ambient animals), though strictly speaking, the PC gamers did get some extras in the graphics department, as usual.
Pokdepinion: GTA V just keeps on going, keeps on giving. Perhaps good enough until GTA 6 PC arrives…
