Pokdepicks 5 Awesome Games to Look Out for in October 2019

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

The 16th instalment of the popular Activision shooter series, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is a first-person shooter and a soft reboot of the Modern Warfare subseries. While not much still known about the game’s primary storyline, the game is set to take place in a realistic and modern setting featuring the return of Captain Price.

However, this version of Captain Price will be completely different from past iterations due to the soft reboot. Gamers will control Metropolitan Police Sergeant and former British Army Officer Kyle Garrick for the first half of the campaign. The game then shifts to Alex, a CIA officer, in the second half of the campaign.

Fun fact, this iteration of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the first game in the franchise to fully support cross-platform multiplayer. This means that you can play with people even if they’re on different platforms. Moreover, post-launch content will be free for all gamers as Activision has removed their Season Pass offering for this game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 25th October 2019.

Call of Duty Mobile

Developed by Tencent Games, Call of Duty Mobile is an online multiplayer first-person shooter game. It also marks the first major entry of the series into the world of mobile gaming. The game will be very similar in concept to previous Call of Duty games, where you simply fight against enemies alone or in teams using a vast array of military weaponry.

Interestingly, the game will feature maps and other game elements from previous Call of Duty games to provide a wholesome gaming experience on smartphone. This includes the game’s own iteration of the Blackout battle royale game mode. The game itself will be free to play but there are microtransactions and a battle pass available for gamers to purchase.

Fun fact, Call of Duty Mobile was made available in July 2019 for beta testing purposes. At the time, it had a similar look and feel to Call of Duty games in the PS3 era. It also focused on competitive multiplayer matches in modes like Search-and-Destroy, Team Deathmatch and free for all. Things may change drastically in the final release but it’s definitely one to look out for regardless.

Call of Duty Mobile will be coming to Android and iOS devices on 1st October 2019.

WWE 2K20

The 7th instalment in the WWE 2K series, WWE 2K20 is a professional wrestling game by 2K Sports and Visual Concepts Studio. In this entry, the 2K Showcase mode will revolve around the Four Horsewomen of WWE during the infamous Women’s Revolution era; Bayley, Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch.

The 2K Towers mode which was first introduced in WWE 2K19 will make its return. The biggest highlight of the mode is the journey of Roman Reigns from his early days as part of The Shield to his days as the WWE Universal Champion. For the first time in the franchise, WWE 2K20 will feature a female MyCareer story alongside its male story, each with their own unique storylines.

Fun fact, the WWE 2K series has generally been seen as the work of Japanese game development studio Yuke’s. WWE 2K20 marks the beginning of a new era as Yuke’s officially parted ways earlier this year. The move was made mainly due to recent entries being stale and unable to provide a fresh new experience, which is a common complaint among gamers.

WWE 2K20 will be coming to the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on 22nd October 2019.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3

The long-awaited sequel in Nihon Falcom’s popular game series, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 is a role-playing game with a traditional turn-based battle system. The game takes place one and a half years after the events of Trails of Cold Steel II. The story revolves around protagonist Rean Schwarzer, his students, and the rest of his military school friends from the prior two entries.

The game will explore a number of unresolved mysteries including the origins of Rean’s birth, and what others have been up to since the events of the prior games. The game also features appearances from Tita and Agate, characters from Trails in the Sky, a previous story arc within the Trails series, as well as Tio and Randy, characters from Trails from Zero and Trails to Azure.

Fun fact, while the series itself has concluded for the Japanese audience, the game is still far from over for the English-speaking crowd. This was due to localization issues rather than poor sales figures. In fact, Nihon Falcom President Toshihiro Kondo said the process is very time-consuming as there’s over 2.4 million Japanese texts that require translations for this entry alone.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel 3 will be coming exclusively to the PlayStation 4 on 22nd October 2019.

Luigi’s Mansion 3

The mature spin-off of the Mario series, Luigi’s Mansion 3 is an action-adventure game with open-ended level structures. Luigi, along with Mario, Princess Peach, a group of Toads, and his pet Polterpup go on vacation after receiving an invitation to the luxurious Last Resort hotel. However, the dream vacation is simply a plot by King Boo to capture Mario and his friends.

Luigi is tasked with exploring a large hotel, with each floor based around a different theme featuring a variety of atmospheres and mechanics. There is also a multiplayer component called ScareScraper that will allow for up to eight players to play together either locally or online. With the help of Professor E. Gadd and the new Poltergust G-00, Luigi must conquer his fears and save his friends.

Fun fact, Luigi’s Mansion 3 did away with the mansion setting and moved to a hotel setting instead in order to make three-dimensional exploration possible. Game Producer Kensuke Tanabe wanted players to be able to visualize how the hotel was set up. Despite that, the team also deliberately made choices in the settings to make it as unexpected and un-hotel-like as possible.

Luigi’s Mansion 3 will be coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch on 31st October 2019.
