At Gamescom 2025, ASUS unveiled several new OLED gaming monitors, one of which caught the attention of ours: the 26.5-inch ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W is claimed as the world’s fastest OLED monitor, with native support for 540Hz refresh rate in 1440p resolution; while 540Hz is blazing fast, it’s got a secondary 720Hz mode that runs at just 720p. Yep, exactly 1280 x 720 pixels.

Those who lived through the early 2000s and 2010s of display technology will know that 720p is a resolution that is best left in history, although this ‘HD’ resolution isn’t entirely useless today. In the same way that 720Hz is designed for competitive gamers, you may have seen some FPS pros running games at low resolutions to get that extra bit of competitive advantage; OLED’s near-instantaneous pixel response time certainly helps, too.
The ROG Swift OLED PG27AQWP-W is also one of the first gaming monitors with Tandem OLED technology, which stacks two panels together to get better brightness and less wear on individual panels. It’s also among the first with the new glare-reducing TrueBlack Glossy coating. It also supports VESA DisplayHDR 500 True Black, 99.5% DCI-P3 color gamut and true 10-bit color, along with Neo Proximity Sensor as part of the OLED Care Pro suite to extend the panels’ lifespan.

Besides that, ASUS also brought two new ROG Strix OLED monitors: the XG27AQWMG features the same Tandem OLED technology and TrueBlack Glossy coating, with 280Hz refresh rate and the same color performance as the ROG Swift model, while the XG27AQDMG Gen 2 gets a traditional WOLED panel with QHD resolution at 240Hz, along with VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification and 99% DCI-P3 coverage.
Pokdepinion: I can’t even grasp just how fast 720Hz looks like.
