HUAWEI P40 and P40 Pro designs leaked
I have not been a big fan of the rectangular camera bumps these smartphone makers are using recently. First the HONOR V30, then Samsung’s latest Galaxy A devices and the upcoming Galaxy S20 series. Not a big fan. But the HUAWEI P40 Pro’s camera bump may change my opinion, as they seem to have made a pretty decent looking rectangular camera bump.
I think the main reason why I find the HUAWEI P40 Pro’s camera hump much more appealing is because of the mix of materials. Unlike those that came before, the HUAWEI P40 Pro’s camera hump appears to have contrasting textures. Then there’s also the optimal use of space which sees five cameras including a periscopic one packed in the HUAWEI P40 Pro. The HUAWEI P40 sports a similar camera hump although we see two less cameras, but HUAWEI looks set to fill up that space with all that Leica branding. There’s also rumors that point to HUAWEI using ceramic in the HUAWEI P40 Pro as well, which would be a first for HUAWEI.
Over on the front HUAWEI will be using a curved display for the HUAWEI P40 Pro. HUAWEI skipped the sharply curved Horizon Display used in the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro though, giving it a gentle curve that’s more akin to their earlier devices. That also gave HUAWEI the space for volume buttons on the sides. Meanwhile the HUAWEI P40 gets a standard flat display panel. They will be adopting a dual selfie camera setup for both devices set in a punch hole, a first for HUAWEI’s flagships.
What’s under the hood is still up for contention, but we can pretty much be sure of a Kirin 990 5G chipset and probably some UFS 3.0 storage. While the HUAWEI Mate 30 series made its way to Malaysia with the Kirin 990 sans 5G, the HUAWEI P40 series should be coming with 5G support since the HUAWEI Mate 30 Pro 5G has already passed SIRIM.
We can probably expect to find out more about the HUAWEI P40 series during MWC 2020. They will however most probably do a separate launch event, as they have done for the HUAWEI P30 series.

Pokdepinion: With a custom sensor expected to debut in the HUAWEI P40 series yet again, I am quite intrigued to see what they will bring to the table.
