While it’s been known that Malaysia is on route to adopt 5G technology in the future, a Sarawak DAP lawmaker has taken to the Ministry of Communications and Multimedia (KKMM) to rethink of the idea when rural areas such as Sabah and Sarawak can’t even get stable internet connections.

Wong Ling Biu (PH-Sarikei) has said that the coverage in rural areas is still weak, where some parts don’t even have any connection whatsoever.  He states during Question Time in Parliament today “Let’s not talk about 5G connectivity – even fourth generation (4G/LTE) and normal connectivity is hard to get. What is the Ministry’s plan or measures that will be taken to address this in Sarawak”.

Malaysia’s Communications and Multimedia Minister, Gobind Singh responded by saying that the technology was important to prepare the nation to compete at the international level and to face the challenges of the digital economy in the future. He adds “We have to be prepared. Whether we like it or not, 5G is something that would take over the world and its economy in the years to come”.

Previously there was a 5G Showcase done in Putrajaya, where the public was allowed to experience what 5G technology could bring. HUAWEI has also join in on the action as they’ve partnered up with Celcom in creating their 5G Innovation Hub at Celcom’s HQ.

Pokdepinion: There is some truth to what he says… but regardless, we need to push forward and progress.
