PlayStation Network Refund Policy Changes Makes it Easier to Refund Digital Purchases
It appears that the folks over at Sony Interactive Entertainment have amended the PlayStation Network refund policy. This happened due to issues with BioWare’s Anthem on the PlayStation 4, which allegedly caused consoles to brick and with many gamers demanding a refund for it.
You can cancel a digital content purchase within 14 days from the date of purchase and receive a refund to your PSN wallet, provided that you have not started downloading or streaming it.
Digital content that you have started downloading or streaming, and in-game consumables that have been delivered, are not eligible for a refund unless the content is faulty.
You can cancel your purchase of a season pass within 14 days from the date of purchase and receive a refund to your PSN wallet, provided that you have not started downloading or streaming any digital content (e.g. game add-ons) included in the season pass.
After reading all of that, it may seem like it’s harder to request for refunds. This is especially the case for the part where it says that games that have already started download / streaming will not be eligible. However, that’s more of an anti-abuse measure on their end and if the game is faulty, like Anthem before, you will be eligible for a refund.
After all, how would you know if the game is faulty if you haven’t tried it? In the case of Anthem, there were a number of users who faced issues with the game so those who have not tried it yet would be advised to refund it, and it would be easy to do so. The ones who faced the issues earlier on needed to wait a bit longer as investigations will need to take place. Either way, at least we have a clearer idea as to how refunds for digital goods will work on PSN.
