I owned an Edifier M1380 several years ago, and I really loved it. Unfortunately, I ended up having to give it to someone as I received complains for it being too loud. Since that day, headsets have become my daily driver…that is until the Edifier XM6BT landed in our office.

Unboxing the Edifier XM6BT

The Edifier XM6BT comes in a quite heavy box. At the front of the box we have the actual picture of the product and its highlight features. The unit we have here is the Bluetooth version, unlike the Edifier XM6PF which have built-in FM radio.

The Edifier XM6BT is a 2.1 multimedia speaker, consisting of 2 satellites and 1 subwoofer. The satellites are covered by a cloth mesh. On each satellite, it has a 3-inch woofer and a 10mm tweeter, which I’m not very sure if it’s really wired. Material-wise, it uses Medium-Density Fibreboard (MDF) and as we can see, there is a hole at the back of each satellite which can be used for mounting purposes.

The total weight of the Edifier XM6BT is contributed by the subwoofer. Behind the cloth mesh, it has a 6.5-inch driver to produce the amount of bass that you can feel instead of just hearing. At the left side, we have the bass hole for the air intake.

The Edifier XM6BT control panel is located at the right side of the subwoofer. From here, you plug all the necessary cables, and also an SD card or USB for the audio source. The subwoofer cabinet is also made from the same material as the satellites. As it uses MDF, please make sure to use dry clean cloth when cleaning the box or you might end up damaging the fiberboard. Overall, the build quality is impressive and very solid.

As it could be difficult to access the control panel with the subwoofer positioned on the floor, Edifier’s solution is with a remote control. This is a blessing for a big guy (chubby) like me whenever I want to switch the audio source on the fly. The remote control is pretty small and light. It uses a CR2025 battery which is supposedly able to last for a long period of time.

User Experience

Just as I had expected, once you’ve placed the subwoofer on the floor, you definitely need the remote control. I tried to switch between audio sources and it was quick and straightforward. There is an LED indicator to indicate which audio source that’s currently in use. The green is for AUX connection, blue for Bluetooth, and red for both USB and SD card.

For the USB and SD card, make sure you’ve formatted the storage with FAT32 file system format. Otherwise, the Edifier XM6BT won’t recognize it. I didn’t face any problems when pairing the speaker with my ASUS Zenfone 3. If it needs a PIN code when pairing, just insert “0000”. From my observation, you can unpair the speaker from the smartphone, but not from the speaker itself. So, take precautions if you want to give Bluetooth access to stranger’s smartphone.

My first impression when using this speaker is on the amount bass, which is freaking loud and punchy. Playing DotA 2 is awesome with it, especially when you start nailing the kill streak. Even then, it’s nothing compared to the explosions in Battlefield 1. Figuratively, Pokde’s office has turned into a chaotic battlefield with all the explosions.

ARVE Error: need id and provider

This speaker made me reminisce on the M1380 and I recall some songs that I used to listen back in the day. One of the songs is “Goldfish – Get Busy Living”, and listening to it did bring back some memories.  Listening to “Clint Mansell – Death is the Road to Awe” alone in the middle of night gave a mysterious feeling, which I’m not sure whether I was happy or sad. Last but not least, the Skyrim official soundtrack, “Dragonborn” still gave me the goosebumps.

Personally, I found that the mid frequencies are okay and not too shabby, it’s well balanced with the high and low frequencies.  Surprisingly the treble is pretty good and noticeable, I can hear the present on some songs which I very much appreciate.

Conclusion

The Edifier XM6BT is a great multimedia speaker, especially for gaming or watching actions movies filled with sound effects and explosions. Priced at RM239, it’s surely worth it for the price. With the Bluetooth and USB storage features, the Edifier XM6BT is not only a good PC speaker but also for home and lifestyle. Even though the bass is very loud, it doesn’t drown out the mid frequencies, and the treble is noticeable.

Edifier XM6BT 2.1 Speaker Review - It's All About That Bass 32

During the review, I said a lot about the bass, yes, if you want a 2.1 speaker with a huge amount of bass, the Edifier XM6BT or XM6PF is definitely the best option for the price. If you feel that the Bluetooth is not very important and will be used rarely, the Edifier XM6PF is the best alternative with a lower price tag of RM209. Judging from the sound quality and features, the EDIFIER XM6BT deserves to be awarded with the Pokde Silverward.

Edifier XM6BT dan R1280DB mana lebih bagus dari segi bunyinya?

  • June 16, 2018 at 9:27 am

Thanks for the review. I think the bass unit is cool for small room like mine 30′ x 11′. My room shakes and my mom complains every time when there are loud bass scenes from the movies even with just 50% of bass volume. Thanks to its ported design and power efficiency. The treble & satellite units are not as loud as I expected, however they do produce crisp and focused sound. It seems that the treble & satellite units have higher ohms than the bass, this leads me to the need of pushing the volume to 70% ~ 80% every time. I am afraid I might blow them off one day.

These are for use with a PC, you should be nearer to the satellites to get the most from them…

The Z625 compares directly against the M3600D rather than the Edifier XM6BT which is from a lower range

Hi, we have not tested the Panasonic SC-HT31, so we can’t compare between the two.

if versus with Logitech Z337 that had same price
    which is better?

We didn’t get the opportunity to test the Logitech Z337, but I am pretty confident the Edifier XM6BT will come out on top with the satellites offering a dedicated tweeter and mid-range driver. The highs should be clearer than on the Logitech Z337 which doesn’t have a dedicated tweeter
