The somewhat mysterious Meteor Lake-S family are also said to max out at a rather unusual 6P+16E core configuration.
Hardware leaker going by the name of @leaf_hobby has dropped some info on the upcoming Intel Meteor Lake-S CPUs – in particular its PCIe 5.0 configuration. From the tweet, the leaker says these CPUs will get 4 extra PCIe 5.0 lanes – matching that of AMD Ryzen 7000 series (with X670E and B650E motherboards).
The Meteor Lake-S will see a new socket replacing the two-generations-old LGA1700 with LGA1851, which is expected to last at least two generations forward. The physical socket size will remain identical, meaning all existing coolers with LGA1700 socket support will not require modifications to fit them into the new socket. Sources has claimed that Z890 may arrive only in 2Q 2024 – following the Raptor Lake refresh set for Q3 launch this year.

Pokdepinion: 6 P-cores is an interesting choice for MTL-S. Perhaps Intel factored into die sizes and decided it’s better to use two P-core’s die area in exchange for 8 more E-cores.
