Geekbench Reveals AMD Threadripper PRO 7000 To Feature 96 Cores, 5.1GHz Boost Clocks
In the workstation CPU space, AMD is currently holding undisputed lead in the core count against Intel’s chips; and the company is set to extend that gap – going by this particular Geekbench 5 entry. This particular benchmark involves an AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 7995WX housed inside a HP Z6 G5 workstation, running on Ubuntu 22.04.3 LTS operating system.
The clockspeed recorded is at a consistent 5.14GHz, producing the scores of 2,095 on single-core and 81,408 points on multicore. For reference – the previous generation Threadripper PRO 5995WX scores around 40,000 points depending on systems (it’s also worth noting that it runs on DDR4, whereas 7995WX is running on DDR5 with HP’s own proprietary motherboard).
As pointed out by Everest (@Olrak29_), the scores will put the 7995WX on the Geekbench 5 world record, surpassing the current record occupied by overclocked 56-core Intel Xeon w9-3495X with LN2 (Liquid nitrogen) cooling at 72,786 points.
As far as leaks go, AMD may launch the Threadripper PRO 7000 somewhere within this quarter – but there’s no word on HEDT counterparts (codenamed Storm Peak) launching around the same time.
