Be warned: your PC’s power supply might not like this latest piece of news. According to renowned leaker @kopite7kimi, the next-generation NVIDIA GPUs (codenamed Blackwell) will consume obscene amounts of power, and it’s not just the uber flagship like the RTX 5090 either – the high-end RTX 5080 will get a huge TGP increase as well.

RTX 5090 Gets Even More Power-Hungry

According to the leaker (via Videocardz), the RTX 5090 will be consuming a staggering 600 watts of power, a 150W increase from the current flagship; meanwhile, the RTX 5080 will get its power limit increased to 400 watts, which is 80W more than its predecessor. It’s worth noting that the figures are higher than what Seasonic initially suggested in its database, the data of which has since been redacted.

On another note, the publication has obtained additional information from the leaker, who claimed that RTX 5080 is projected to be 10% faster than the RTX 4090 (which consumes 450W). Given that the upcoming flagship is consuming 50% more power (plus double the core count) – which saturates the limits of the 12V-2×6 connector – one can expect significant gen-on-gen performance uplift.

In any case, we should be able to see the new lineup by the end of this year, though the retail launch is set in early 2025, if rumors are anything to go by.

Pokdepinion: That didn’t take long for 12V-2×6 to max out its capabilities.
