GIGABYTE Officially Confirms Next-Gen Ryzen Will Be Called Ryzen 9000 Series

Previously, both ASUS and MSI have officially announced the latest BIOS updates for all of their respective AMD 600 series motherboards in anticipation of next-gen Ryzen processors; however, neither OEMs have made explicit mentions of what the “next-gen” Ryzen chip will be named.

Today, GIGABYTE clears the air and confirms via a press release that it’ll bear the Ryzen 9000 series naming when it launches later this year. In all cases, all BIOS updates released recently are based on the same AGESA 1.1.7.0 BIOS, so we can expect more AMD motherboard vendors to follow with their versions of this latest AGESA patch.

While nothing beyond the name has been confirmed thus far, the rumor mill has been spinning for quite a while for the upcoming Zen5-based chip. What is known among leakers is that Zen5 will feature significantly increased performance over Zen4, and from the official side, Team Red has confirmed that it’ll continue using Socket AM5 (hence the BIOS update), and will launch within this year.

It is also widely speculated among the circle that AMD may officially introduce Zen5 this coming Computex in June – the company has a history of launching new Zen architecture before, notably Zen2 in 2019.
