Kingston has officially unveiled its first consumer-grade PCIe 5.0 SSD in the form of Kingston FURY Renegade G5 – the drive is claimed to deliver read and write speeds of up to 14.8 GB/s and 14.0 GB/s respectively, with random I/O listed as 2.2 million IOPS, making it one of the fastest SSDs currently available on the market.

The Kingston FURY Renegade G5 is powered by the Silicon Motion SM2508 controller based on 6nm lithography, along with 3D TLC cache (layer count isn’t listed) and LPDDR4 DRAM cache to further boost sustained write performance. Per its spec sheet, the drive is available in three capacities – 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB – in M.2 2280 form factor. The differences in three storage variants are as follows:
Specs | 1024GB (1TB) | 2048GB (2TB) | 4096GB (4TB) |
---|---|---|---|
Sequential R/W | 14.2 GB/s read 11.0 GB/s write | 14.7 GB/s read 14.0 GB/s write | 14.8 GB/s read 14.0 GB/s write |
Random (4K) R/W | 2,200,000 IOPS read 2,150,000 IOPS write | 2,200,000 IOPS read 2,200,000 IOPS write | 2,200,000 IOPS read 2,200,000 IOPS write |
Write Endurance | 1,000 TBW | 2,000 TBW | 4,000 TBW |
Power Consumption | 0.27W Avg 6.6W @ 14.2G 6.6W (MAX) | 0.27W Avg 7.0W @ 14.7G 7.0W (MAX) | 0.27W Avg 7.1W @ 14.8G 9.5W (MAX) |
Unlike other PCIe 5.0 SSDs, the Kingston FURY Renegade G5 doesn’t come with a dedicated heatsink – cooling is simply done through the thermally-conductive foil, though it is naturally compatible with any existing motherboard’s SSD heatsink for additional cooling (which is still recommended, given its relatively high power usage on heavy loads).
Kingston says the drives are rated for 2 million hours of MTBF, and they all feature 5-year warranty. The current pricing for the 1TB model is listed as RM879, followed by 2TB costing RM1,399, and 4TB priced at RM2,679.
