Google has launched the integration of ShopeePay and TNG eWallet with Google Pay in Malaysia, enabling Android users to make payments on mobile websites through Google Chrome using their preferred eWallets. This marks the first time Google Pay has introduced eWallet support in the Southeast Asia region.

Google Pay eWallet Integration Now Available

Through this integration, Android users can complete transactions at participating online merchants by selecting the Google Pay button or choosing “eWallet” during checkout in Chrome. Users are also able to top up their selected eWallet directly via Google Pay, with future updates expected to allow users to view balance within the platform.

For initial payments, users will be prompted to complete one-time verification from their eWallet provider of choice, after which subsequent transactions can be done without switching apps. For security, all transactions still require biometrics (unlike Apple’s FaceID, Google will use fingerprints) or PIN code to approve the payment process.

This initiative comes as eWallet usage in Malaysia reached 88% in 2024 according to Google, with the integration offering additional payment options for consumers and supporting wider access to digital payments, particularly among the underbanked (i.e. those who lack access to financial services offered by banks). “As the first market in the region to offer this integration, Malaysia also has the potential to set a new standard for digital payment innovation across Southeast Asia,” said Farhan S. Qureshi, Country Director of Google Malaysia.

The company noted that ShopeePay and TNG eWallet are the first partners to be included in the rollout, with additional eWallets expected to be supported in the future; supported merchants currently include Fiuu (formerly Razer Merchant Services) and iPay88, both of which provides the payment infrastructure for brands like Nando’s, US Pizza, Alpro Pharmacy, and more.
