Sony has introduced the FE 50-150mm F2 GM telephoto zoom lens featuring a constant F2 aperture and a maximum focal length of 150mm, designed to support a wide range of use cases including wedding, portrait, and indoor sports photography, as well as video production.

The FE 50-150mm F2 GM incorporates a 50mm wide-angle starting point and integrates optical elements such as two XA (extreme aspherical), two Super ED (extra-low dispersion), and three ED glass elements to minimize aberrations and maintain image sharpness across the entire zoom range. A floating focusing system enables a minimum focusing distance of 0.4m (or 0.74m for telephoto range), and a maximum magnification ratio of 0.20 providing additional flexibility for close-up shots.
The lens delivers constant F2 aperture which produces shallow depth of field and smooth background defocus. It includes a newly developed 11-blade circular aperture and Sony’s Nano AR Coating II, which reduces ghosting and flare in backlit conditions.

It also features an internal zoom mechanism which doesn’t alter the physical length of the lens (approximately 200mm), which is good for weight balance for handheld and gimbal use; as for the weight of the lens, it is claimed to be around 1,340g. Meanwhile, the autofocus system consists of four XD linear motors and supports high-speed continuous shooting up to 120 FPS with compatible Sony Alpha cameras.
For video production, the lens supports Sony’s Breathing Compensation feature and includes Linear Response MF for improved manual focus control. It also features a dust and moisture-resistant design with a fluorine coating on the front element to reduce smudges and ease maintenance.
The Sony FE 50-150mm F2 GM (SEL50150GM) will be available in Malaysia starting May 2025, with pricing yet to be announced at the time of this writing.
