Shopping for a new product can be daunting, especially when you’re trying to compare between offerings from several different brands. Google Chrome’s new feature dubbed “Tab Compare” is designed to help with that, by using AI to compile a comparison list presented in a more consistent manner.

The Tab Compare feature uses generative AI to pull the spec sheet from different product webpages (as opened tabs) and puts it into a list that lays out the key specs for easy reference – assuming the AI works as intended and doesn’t hallucinate. On paper, this can be a handy feature to compare devices like speakers without constantly switching tabs back and forth, as Google presented above.

In the blog post (which also mentions the Drag to Search feature), the company says this feature will first be rolled out to users in the United States in the coming weeks. In Google words, “you’ll be able to easily compare and make an informed decision without the endless tab switching.” Google spokesperson Joshua Cruz told The Verge that the feature will only fit up to 10 items (for UI reasons), and it will automatically identify the attributes to compare, though no examples were provided.
