Microsoft Is Telling You To Buy A New PC If You’re Still Using Windows 10 Right Now

Still holding onto the good old Windows 10 despite its impending demise next October? While you can pay for an additional three years of security updates, Microsoft would much prefer you to get onboard with Windows 11 instead – even if that means telling you with a full-screen ad in your face that you need to buy a new PC.

Microsoft’s Latest Upselling Tactic

Some of the Windows 10 users recently spotted a full-screen prompt that advertises on Windows 11, and while in most cases this means a prompt to upgrade your PC to Microsoft’s latest operating system, all you can do while seeing this screen is to learn more about the new Copilot+ PCs on the web, or simply ignore this message.

The additional requirement that is the TPM 2.0, or Trusted Platform Module 2.0, has prevented a fair share of Windows 10 systems from ever upgrading to Windows 11, so the best course of action from Microsoft’s perspective is for you to simply buy a new computer. Conveniently, Microsoft is also very keen to advertise on how great the Copilot+ PCs will be, with no mentions of the paid ESU (Extended Security Update) option that will allow Windows 10 systems to keep going for another three years.

All in all, this sounds like an upselling tactic on Microsoft’s part as the company is fully embracing the AI hype, but it hasn’t had the greatest track record when it comes to convincing the skeptics that its AI won’t be doing the nasty stuffs, like the Recall controversy that forced the company to postpone the launch until further notice.
